I'd go with something very simple -- not chiding or carefree, just responsive. Maybe: "Weekend was good but too short as always." You could add, "yours?" at the end if you want a response, but I probably wouldn't.

Hard to say without knowing any of the back story. But for what it's worth, I will tell you that I almost missed a second date with my now husband because of something similar on his part, involving an email to a group event, which was his way of testing the waters to see if I was still interested after a first date. When I emailed him back asking what was up, he said he thought I had lost interest, and was afraid I would reject him. Turns out we had some crossed wires, and ended up having that crucial next date.

Hi Jamy!

It has been about a year since I posted on your blog. Just wanted to let you know, even though we have never met, our paths are still crossing. Still single, still in a job I am not found of, still trying to do life on life's terms. I am not sure why some people so easily find relationships or have the right job. The older you get the more difficult each of these is harder to obtain. I too, am having similiar dreams of someone coming into my life. I am also having difficulty with being attracted to guys who are way to young for me. I don't under stand why I get a long with them so well. I think the feeling is mutual, they just don't want to date an older women. As your friend says...they are not interested enough to pursue it. Anyway, I just wanted to chime in....

It's likely relatively cheap now, too.

Great post! Aren't you glad you got back into rowing? I wear my vibram five fingers in the shell now. They fit all sizes of boat-shoes and don't slip out of the larger men's sizes. I am an 8.5 and I suspect anything larger than a ladies 9 might not work.

Great stories and perspective! Now, everyone needs to know how to type or "keyboard." I wonder if they are teaching touch typing in grade school? Not that handwriting will ever be obsolete, but it's used less and less and cursive (never a fave) has nearly gone by the way. I say printers unite! :)

You provide an interesting generational perspective. My grandfather started out as a secretary, and was a very good typist. His son--my father--never learned how to type, and is now regretting it somewhat as it is getting harder and harder to find administrative assistants willing and able to type his technical documents. My grandmother gave me an electric typewriter when I was in sixth grade and encouraged me to learn to type, perhaps because of her husband's experience (I'm male). That skill turned out to be invaluable. I can do the number keys not by site only on numeric keypad, and only because for my Ph.D. thesis I had to type in about 10,000 numbers.

My Mom made me sign up for typing class at the community college when I was in High School because I didn't have room for it in my regular schedule. I remember thinking how crazy it was for her to insist I know how to type when I just knew I would have a "secretary" when I grew up. And now, even though I do have an administrative assistant I still do most of my own typing, so thank goodness she did insist!

But like you, I have never quite mastered the number keys, I have to look at them every single time.

I remember my first typing classes in middle school... we always had to type "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country." It's funny, I practiced that line so much that now it's the fastest line I can type. :)

I also agree with your statement about undesired "compliments", they just don't strike the same chord. While someone I am interested could say something as banal as "you're nice" and I'll blush about it days later.

You're right, it's an awful idea to sacrifice personal happiness for work. I did it for too many years and after making the change I can't get over the difference it made. Good teams and supervisors are out there.

Thanks for the good thoughts. The transfer is still pending but just having it out there has made me much calmer. Spent some time tonight drafting a cover letter, so trying not to be complacent.

i just wanted to thank you for this very informative and entertaining write-up on rowing apparel. my 12-year-old son is starting crew on thursday, and in trying to educate myself about what his apparel needs will be, i was most grateful to stumble across this. very, very helpful! now i won't be the ill prepared mother who ran out and bought him all the wrong stuff. ya know... these sensitive almost teenagers :)

and you should probably sport a unisuit one day just to shock your rowing companions :) hehe.

What a creep! I totally know what you mean about not needing any random guy to say you're attractive. I've actually had friends say, "Well, it's a compliment!" when I've complained about such a situation, and it's like, My self-esteem isn't so low that I need a stranger's unwanted attention and compliments. "What? Oh my God, you think I'm cute? Thank you so much!!! Now I shall sleep with you!"

One other slight problem with the movie i would say was the fact the senator (or anyone else in the family for that matter) did not seem to have a problem with VV being with (and then marrying) the ginger daughter. After they were exposed and vilified like they were, which led to OW being ignored by RmA.
