Communion

Thought I’d try something different this year. Instead of avoiding the computer and the blogs, I may get up early, go for a little solo walk and coffee, use some free wifi and do a semi-normal email-blog-reading routine. Might help me feel at ease. A problem I have when I visit my mom is that things tend to go well at the start but I get more and more tense and testy as the days go by and I long to be alone. But she doesn’t like me to go off on my own and I sort of feel bad about it.

This morning, I got the idea about the early morning walk. While Mom is an early riser, I am still on East Coast time and will wake even earlier at least for a few days. I got up around 6:30 and cleaned up and by the time I was ready to go, Mom was just waking up. She persuaded me to take the dog. I hesitated at first because I didn’t know if he would sit patiently while I communed with the computer, but he’s doing ok. I’m sitting outside, it’s not too cool, I have a shawl wrapped around me over a short sleeve tee, and he’s right by my side, sitting and being calm. Ahh…

I haven’t managed to fully coordinate with all friends yet, but I have a tentative plan for tonight, Sunday and Monday. So it will be a good mix of friends and Mom.

It was in the high 90s yesterday, which didn’t bother me too much but made sleeping rather uncomfortable. Luckily, the heat broke in the night and it’s barely hitting 60 at 8am. It will only get to the low 80s today so I am going to have a very pleasant week here, at least weather-wise.

Grateful for: a routine.
